Files

Import and export Microsoft Project files

Open .mpp, .mpt, .mpx and XML files with tasks, dependencies, constraints, calendars and baselines, and export the plan back to Microsoft Project XML.

  • Available
  • Free, included in every account

What it does

Import from Microsoft Project and Primavera P6

Drop the file, check the preview and the project is ready, with dependencies, calendars and baselines. No software to install and no licenses.

Where it helps

  • Recover Project Online plans from saved .mpp or XML files.
  • Share a plan received from a supplier with people who have no Microsoft Project or Primavera license.
  • Review a construction schedule prepared in Primavera P6 in the browser.
What travels where

From Microsoft Project to Planitude

  • Tasks, hierarchy, durations, milestones and constraints → Planitude, From Microsoft Project to Planitude
  • Dependencies between tasks → Planitude, From Microsoft Project to Planitude
  • Work calendars and baselines → Planitude, From Microsoft Project to Planitude
  • Actuals and fixed costs → Planitude, From Microsoft Project to Planitude. Resources are listed in each task’s notes

Setup

Connect it in three steps

  1. Prepare the file

From Microsoft Project, save the plan as .mpp or XML; from Primavera P6, export the project as .xer or PMXML. .mpt templates and .mpx files work too.

  2. Drop it into Import

In Planitude choose Import and drop the file. The preview shows tasks, calendars and milestones before anything is created.

  3. Create the project

Confirm and the plan opens in the Gantt chart. The import report lists every item that could not be mapped, so nothing is dropped without notice.

Requirements

Plan
Free. Every integration is included in every Planitude account.
Who can connect it
Any user: the imported project is yours and you can invite the team.
What you need
Just the project file: no Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 license is needed.

Good to know

  • The original file is not modified: the import creates a new project.
  • ProjectLibre and GanttProject files can be imported too.

Guides and documentation

Frequently asked questions about Microsoft Project

Do I need a Microsoft Project license?

No. Planitude reads the .mpp file directly, without Microsoft Project installed and without a subscription.

What happens to items that cannot be imported?

The import report lists them one by one. Resources and their assignments are listed in the task notes, so the information stays in the plan.

Do the integrations cost anything?

No. Every integration is included in Planitude, which is free. You only need your own access to the other tool (for example a Jira, Slack or Microsoft 365 account) under its own terms.

How do I disconnect an integration?

From the app's page in the project, with Disconnect, at any time. Nothing is deleted: tasks stay in Planitude, issues and messages stay in the other tool. Connected AI apps are revoked from Profile → API keys.
